April 30, 2006

Thousands of volunteers from 280 Baltimore neighborhoods collected more than 404 tons of debris last weekend during the city's seventh annual Super Spring Sweep Thing, according to the Department of Public Works.

City officials said that only 17 community groups canceled their participation because of rain that fell April 22.

Since 2000, public works officials said, 16,348 tons of trash has been collected in 13 citywide cleanups.
