Sandy Mount sets plant sale, flea market

Sandy Mount United Methodist Church will hold a Spring Plant Sale and Flea Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 2101 Old Westminster Pike.

Flower and vegetable plants and light fare will be sold.

Flea market tables are $15.

Homestead to sell flowers, other plants

The Union Mills Homestead will hold its 37th annual flower and plant market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. May 7 at 3311 Littlestown Pike.

Hanging baskets, potted and market packs of perennials, annuals, vegetable plants and shrubs will be available.

The farmhouse and grist mill will be open for tours from noon to 4 p.m. for a small fee. The blacksmith will demonstrate his craft.

The gift shop will be open, with stone-ground flours from the grist mill. Kountry Kafe and Katering will provide food.

Other vendors will offer a variety of items for sale.

Shepherd's Staff schedules walk

The Shepherd's Staff will hold a "Walk for the Shepherd" from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at 30 Carroll St. The event opens the annual campaign to buy school shoes for needy students.

The two-kilometer walk will go to St. Paul's United Church of Christ at Bond and Green streets. Pledge packets are available from Shepherd's Staff.

An indoor "Walk a Labyrinth" also will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Paul's. This event will include teas, music, reflexology, blood pressure screenings, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., whole body relaxation. The cost is $10 at the door.

May Procession is slated at St. John

St. John Catholic Church will hold its annual May Procession to Honor Blessed Mother Mary at 1 p.m. May 7 at the church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster.

Parish children who are participating should meet at 12:45 p.m. in the portico.

When the procession arrives in the church, the May Queen will honor Mary with flowers, the Rosary will be recited and the benediction celebrated.

In event of rain, participants should go to the church.

Library to offer crafts, laser show

Westminster branch library, 50 E. Main St., will offer:

Book Club for adults at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to discuss The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler.

"Laserface and Laser Light Show" for ages 7 and older at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

"Cinco de Mayo Celebration" for ages 7 to 10 at 4 p.m. Friday.

"Birdhouse Gourd Craft" for ages 7 and older at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Gopspeed to play at Shiloh church

Shiloh United Methodist Church will hold an indoor concert featuring Godspeed at 6 p.m. today.

The band Godspeed includes Mike Kreiner on drums and percussion, Greg Smith on lead guitar and vocals, Ray Kreiner on bass and vocals and Jim Gobrecht on rhythm guitar and vocals.

Admission is free, but donations for the band will be accepted.

Nature center offers events for children

Charlotte's Quest Nature Center, 3400 Wilhelm Lane, Manchester, has announced activities.

Outdoor classroom for ages 5 to 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday. Home-schooled children and others can learn about nature and natural science. The cost is $2 for members and $3 for nonmembers. Registration: 410-258-6357.

A spring fest will be held from noon to 5 p.m. May 7. Food, vendors, games, live music and crafts will be featured. Thursday's Reign will play music. Miss Sherry will bring her live animals. Talks about black bears and the Puppy Walkers of the Guide Dog Foundation will be given. Volunteers are needed for the event.

Earth Kids Club for those 8 to 16 meets from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. May 12. Children will learn about environmental issues. The cost is $2 for nonmembers and $1 for members. Registration: 410-258-6357.

Nature Nook for those 2 to 6 at 9:30 a.m. May 12. Crafts, hands-on experiences, stories, hikes and live animals will be featured. The cost is $1 for member and $2 for nonmembers.

Herb, artisan fest is scheduled at church

Greenmount United Methodist Church will hold a Herb and Artisan Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the church, 2001 Hanover Pike.

Local artisans, handmade crafts, collectibles, herbs and plants, a "Tea Thyme" tea room, pit beef, a maypole dance, baked goods, children's activities and entertainment will be featured.

Spots still available on Wildwood, N.J., trip

North Carroll Senior Center has openings for a trip to Wildwood, N.J., June 18 to 22.

The cost is $340 per person, double occupancy. The reservation deadline has been extended to get enough people to take the trip.

All travelers must sign up for trips at the center and fill out emergency information prior to the trip.

The center is at 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount.
