Goldberg's goal in 2nd OT lifts St. Paul's girls lacrosse

Sophomore Kirsty Goldberg scored the game-winner with nine seconds left in the second overtime to lift seventh-ranked St. Paul's past visiting and eighth-ranked Roland Park, 11-10, in an Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference girls lacrosse game yesterday.

Goldberg took a pass from Katy Whiteley and fired it past Reds goalie Chelsea Kirk to clinch the victory. Whiteley finished with a career-high nine points (four goals, five assists) for the host Gators (12-2).

Seniors Brittany Kalkstein and Courtney Kirk each had hat tricks for Roland Park (8-3).

No. 2 McDonogh 18, Friends 5 -- The host Eagles (15-0) remained unbeaten behind three goals each from Brittany Mallory, Kim Dubansky and Casey Kelly.

Seton Keough 14, No. 10 Severn 12 -- Maria Valderas scored eight goals, including two in extra periods, as the host Gators (8-7) edged the visiting Admirals (7-6) in double overtime.

No. 13 John Carroll 9, Maryvale 7 -- Courtney Aburn had three goals and two assists and Allyson Carey added two goals and two assists to help the host Patriots (10-5) defeat the Lions (5-8).


No. 2 Mount St. Joseph 3, McDonogh 2 -- Brandan White's sacrifice fly scored Ryan McDonald as the Gaels (13-4) beat the host Eagles (5-11). Sean Kennedy got the win and Ryan Kemp pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.

No. 3 Chesapeake-AA 4, Northeast 3 -- Pitcher Glen Snyder struck out nine in a complete-game victory for the host Cougars (12-3).

No. 6 Severna Park 7, South River 5 -- Britton Quayle picked up his fourth win of the season with three innings of relief for the host Falcons (12-2). Kyle Wratten led the Seahawks with a double and a home run.

No. 15 River Hill 10, Hammond 9 -- John Blasher hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to lift the visiting Hawks (9-6) past the Bears (4-10).

Boys' Latin 8, Chapelgate 0 -- John Decker threw a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and five walks as the Lakers (8-1) defeated the visiting Golden Knights (8-1).


No. 3 Glen Burnie 9, Old Mill 1 -- Kelly Leary picked up her eighth win for the Gophers (13-2) with nine strikeouts. She also added a triple and an RBI.

No. 7 C. Milton Wright 5, North East 1 -- Katie McCauley went 2-for-3 with a triple for the host Mustangs (11-3). Chelsea Funk had four strikeouts in the win.

No. 11 Fallston 3, Elkton 1 -- Valerie Strawbridge struck out seven with no walks, getting a win in her first varsity start for the Cougars (12-5).

No. 14 Catonsville 11, Towson 0 -- Amanda Fefel pitched a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 12 for the visiting Comets (10-3). She also went 3-for-3, with a single, double and triple in the win over the Generals (8-5).

No. 15 Long Reach 9, Wilde Lake 1 -- Amy Guyton pitched a complete game, striking out seven and going 3-for-3 with a homer, triple and double as the Lightning (11-4) defeated the Wildecats.
