JOHN F. DOWNEY, age 81, of Dunwoody, GA. died April 24, 2006. He was born November 4, 1924 in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from Mount St. Joseph's High School in Baltimore in 1942. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy for WWII and was assigned to an LST (Landing Ship Tank) as a pharmacist's mate in the South Pacific. While there, the V-12 course called him back to study at Princeton University, Swarthmore and the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his studies at Loyola College in Baltimore. He married Anne Barry in 1957 and moved to Atlanta, Georgia. He is survived by his wife, his daughter, Nancy Chamberlain, her three children Tripp, Nina and Jack Chamberlain and his daughter and son-in-law Molly and Brad Newton and their two children Sam and Joe Newton, his brother David J. Downey and many nieces and nephews. He was a stainless steel manufacturers representative and loved gardening. A Rosary will be said Thursday, April 27, 2006 at 6:30 P.M. at All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody, Georgia. A memorial mass will be held Friday, April 28 at 11:00 A.M. at All Saints Catholic Church with Msgr. Donald Kiernan officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Portsbridge Hospice, 4598 Barclay Drive, Dunwoody, Georgia 30338.
