Jane S. Behrens, 87, homemaker, theater lover

Jane S. Behrens, a homemaker and bridge player, died of complications from a stroke April 15 at the Wesley retirement community in Mount Washington. She was 87 and had lived in Lake-Walker for many years.

Jane Sparks was born in Baltimore County and raised on Shepperd Road in Monkton. She was a 1937 Towson High School graduate. Family members said she was a descendant of early settlers of the My Lady's Manor section of Baltimore County.

In 1941 she married James Edward Behrens, a Western Electric employee. He died in 1987.

Mrs. Behrens was a longtime theatergoer and first began attending performances at the old Ford's Theater on Fayette Street. She held memberships in the Govans Women's Club and the Perring Parkway Bowling League.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. James Episcopal Church, 3100 Monkton Road.

Survivors include a son, Douglas Behrens of Monkton; a daughter, Emily Hammond of Fort Myers, Fla.; and two granddaughters.
