Roch around the clock

Don't give up on the Orioles' Daniel Cabrera, not at this age and with much of his learning taking place at the major league level. But, yes, it's frustrating to see another line like yesterday's - five-plus innings, six runs, five hits, five walks, five strikeouts. His stuff is too good for his ERA to be up to 6.87.

I know the Orioles have been trying to upgrade their bullpen. The effort is there. I don't question it. But again, something has to be done.

This isn't a knock on Eddy Rodriguez, but do you really want him inheriting a bases-loaded jam at Yankee Stadium? Do you really want him facing Derek Jeter in that situation? Todd Williams should be back soon, but Chris Britton is more likely to be sent down. And John Halama can't be your only left-handed reliever.

Are the Orioles really 15-for-15 in stolen-base attempts?

How weird is this: The Yankees are 7-0 in day games and 1-8 at night. That can't make the Orioles feel too good about today's game.

A reader asked me about Eli Marrero. He signed with the Colorado Rockies during the winter. The Orioles could use a player like him, someone who can play multiple positions and serve as a third catcher, eliminating the need for Raul Chavez.
