Pat Mileski was among the first customers that day to renew her driver's license.

A big deal?

Yes, because on April 18, 1988 she did so in Columbia.

After a lunchtime dedication ceremony, the "express" office in the Columbia Business Center on Dobbin Road opened at 2 p.m. for business. The facility had 78 first-day customers. "It beats [going] to Glen Burnie," said Mileski. "It's a mess getting there and it's a mess getting back. And it's a mess there, too."
