Nursery school to hold its 22nd spring fair

The Mount Hebron Nursery School Parents' Group will hold its 22nd spring fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine, at Mount Hebron Presbyterian Church, Mount Hebron Drive, Ellicott City.

Activities for children are to include pony rides, four Moon Bounces, face painting, crafts, games with prizes and a Mother's Day Secret Shop.

Boardwalk Fries and Ledo Pizza will provide food. Dance Foundations, Kangaroo Kids, U.S. Tae Kwon Do and the Teelin School of Irish Dance will perform. Plants, baked goods and books will be for sale.

Tickets for games and activities can be purchased at the fair. Admission and parking are free.

Garden Club plans fundraiser May 6

The Cross Country Garden Club will hold its annual fundraiser - a plant, yard and bake sale - from 8:30 a.m. to noon May 6 on the parking lot at 9041 Chevrolet Drive, off St. Johns Lane, in Ellicott City.

English practice -- The Miller branch library, 9421 Frederick Road, Ellicott City, is offering an English Conversation Club for people speaking English as a second language from 7:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Mondays. First-time participants must register before attending a meeting. 410-313-1950.

Chess club -- Elkridge Young Adult Chess Club, for those ages 11 to 17, will meet from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Elkridge library, 6540 Washington Blvd., Elkridge. No experience is necessary. All levels of skill are welcome. 410-313-5077.

For girls -- The Elkridge library is offering Girls Group, a chance for those ages 12 to 15 to unwind after school, talk about favorite books, movies and music and try a craft. Extravaganza -- St. Augustine School, 5990 Old Washington Road, Elkridge, will hold an "Evening of Chance Extravaganza" from 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Food, raffles, a silent auction, electronic horseracing, wheels of chance and dancing are planned. The last ticket drawn during the evening will win $10,000. The winner need not be present to win. Tickets are $125 a couple; 300 tickets will be sold. Proceeds will benefit the school programs. 410-579-1097.

Viking 5K, Fun Run -- Mount Hebron Viking Backers are accepting registrations for the 14th Annual Viking 5K and one-mile Fun Run. The race is to start at 9 a.m. April 30 at Mount Hebron High School and will wind through the surrounding neighborhood. Awards will be given to top finishers in five age groups and to Mount Hebron students, parents and others. Everyone will get a T-shirt and a chance to win one of more than 50 prizes. Participants can register and pick up a packet at the school from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. April 30. The cost, through Saturday, is $20 for the 5K; $12 for the Fun Run. Race day registration is $25 for the race and $15 for the Fun Run. Proceeds will help support clubs and other extracurricular activities.
