South River's boys lacrosse team came into Severna Park at 9-0 last night, but was simply overwhelmed, 14-2, by the host Falcons and the weather had nothing to do with it.

Playing in a driving rain, the No. 11 Falcons (8-2, 7-0 Anne Arundel County league) took it right to the Seahawks (6-1 league) by taking a 5-0 lead in the first 12 minutes and a 9-1 lead at the half.

Severna Park coach Jimmy Beardmore said, "The offense came out jumping and punched them right in the face and that game was over."

As if South River's unbeaten record wasn't enough, the Falcons received some additional incentive from the Internet this week.

"They were talking all kinds of smack all over the Internet and that just fueled everyone's engine," said Falcons goalie Mike Gvozden, who had eight saves.

"They were saying they were 9-0 and were going to come in here and beat us on our home field. We said, `No way, not happening.'"

Junior attack Eric Lusby led the Falcons with five goals and one assist, Dan Burns had two goals and an assist and Chris Hunt had a goal and three assists.

Tom McNeil and Shane George scored the Seahawks' goals.
