Two men were fatally shot in different areas of Baltimore late Thursday and early yesterday morning in apparently unrelated incidents, according to city police.
The killings pushed the city's homicide count this year to 84 as of yesterday, compared with 73 during the similar period last year.
In the earlier killing, police said that officers responded to a 911 call about a shooting in the 1400 block of Poplar Grove St. in West Baltimore at 9:21 p.m. Thursday. Police found a man lying in the street with gunshot wounds to his upper torso, and he was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center. He was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later, police said.
Police are using fingerprint records to try to determine the man's identity, said Officer Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman.
At 3:21 a.m. yesterday, a police officer in East Baltimore was sent to the 2400 block of E. Oliver St. in response to a call about a shooting. The officer found a man lying on the sidewalk who had suffered several gunshot wounds, Monroe said.
The man was pronounced dead at 3:57 a.m. at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Monroe said.
Police identified the victim as Jarell Lamont Adams, 20, who lived in the 900 block of N. Belnord Ave.
