Two candidates to speak at Kahler Hall

Dave Willemain and Cynthia Coyle, two candidates running to represent Harper's Choice on the Columbia Association's board of directors, are to be at Kahler Hall to speak and answer questions at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow. Refreshments will be served.

No one is running for the two open spots on the Harper's Choice Village Board. Appointments will be made by the five village board members after May 1, said Wendy Tzuker, village manager.

Kahler Hall is at 5440 Old Tucker Row in Harper's Choice Village Center.

Afternoon tea at Historic Oakland

Town Center Community Association is offering afternoon tea at Historic Oakland from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. the last Thursday of each month.

The Tea Trolley will cater a two-course meal of scones, savory sandwiches and desserts -- and tea in the 1811 restored mansion.

The cost is $18.90 a person. Reservations are required at least 48 hours in advance. Historic Oakland is at 5430 Vantage Point Road.

Columbia Archives closed Thursday

The Columbia Archives, 10221 Wincopin Circle, Suite 100, will be closed Thursday and Friday so staff members can attend the spring meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference.

The regional consortium of archivists who live and work in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia meets twice a year. This year's meeting is in Baltimore.

Masquerade Ball sponsors sought

Success in Style, a nonprofit organization, is seeking sponsors for its Masquerade Ball, a black-tie event to be held from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at Historic Oakland.

Food will be catered by the Iron Bridge Wine Company, and jugglers, mystery celebrity guests, roving musicians, a magician and dancing are planned. A plasma television set will be raffled.

Sponsorships range from $500 to $2,500. Individual tickets are $200.

Proceeds will benefit the organization, which provides free business attire and interview coaching to women in crisis who are seeking employment.
