McDaniel College sets spring concerts

McDaniel College has announced its spring concerts, all free and open to the public.

The McDaniel Student Guitar Ensembles will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday in (Little) Baker Chapel. The concert will feature the Jazz Guitar Ensemble and the Classical Guitar Ensemble playing blues, South-American folk music, a Spanish dance and an Irish jig.

The Student Clarinet and Saxophone Ensembles will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Levine Recital Hall.

The McDaniel College Choir Concert will perform "Dreams and Voyages" at 7 p.m. April 23 in (Big) Baker Memorial Chapel. The program features the prologue from "Einstein's Dreams (It's About Time)," composed by former artist-in-residence Lorraine Whittlesey, and performed on piano, organ, tubular bells and soloists; a work, "The Hope," by Margaret Boudreaux; "The Stars Are with the Voyager"; "He Watching Over Israel"; "Three Madrigals"; "Super Fluminus Babylon"; and "Autumn Song."

The McDaniel Brass will perform at 7 p.m. April 24 in (Little) Baker Chapel.

An Evening of Madrigals will be presented at 7:30 p.m. April 25 in (Little) Baker Chapel.

A Musical Theatre/Opera Workshop will be held at 7 p.m. April 30 in WMC Alumni Hall Studio Theatre.

Wind ensembles to present concert

The Francis Scott Key and Winters Mill High School Wind Ensembles will present a concert at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Winters Mill auditorium, 560 Gorsuch Road, Westminster.

Glenn Patterson, former supervisor of music for Carroll County public schools, will host the event. Rachel Zephir, director of bands and orchestras at Francis Scott Key, and Kristen Stoetzer, instrumental music director at Winters Mill, will conduct the ensembles.

The directors' teacher, Harlan Parker of the Peabody Conservatory, will conduct the main portion of the concert.

The program includes music by Vaughan Williams, Sparke, Saucedo, and Fillmore, and will highlight the works of Percy Grainger.

Admission is $3. The proceeds will benefit both music departments and the purchase of new instruments. Donations will be accepted.

Children's Chorus to mark anniversary

The Children's Chorus of Carroll County is celebrating 20 years since being founded by two local music teachers in 1986.

A 20th Anniversary Reunion Concert will be held at 3 p.m. April 23 at Winters Mill High School, 560 Gorsuch Road, Westminster.

The group encourages all alumni to participate in this celebration.

Admission is free, but an offering will be taken.
