Catherine A. Dietrich, 54, nurse

Catherine A. Dietrich, a registered nurse and nursing home case manager, died of heart failure April 8 at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care.

The Rodgers Forge resident was 54.

Catherine Posko was born in Baltimore and raised in Pasadena.

She was a 1969 graduate of Severna Park High School and earned her nursing degree from South Baltimore General Hospital School of Nursing in 1971.

Ms. Dietrich worked in the intensive care unit at what is now Baltimore Washington Medical Center from 1972 to 1983.

She later worked at Greenery Extended Care in Canton, and for the last 15 years was a case manager at Manor Care Nursing Home in Ruxton.

In 1995, Ms. Dietrich was diagnosed with breast cancer and for the last decade participated in the annual Race for the Cure.

Active in local Democratic Party politics, Ms. Dietrich was elected to the Democratic State Central Committee in 1978 and represented Canton, Fells Point and Federal Hill. Four years later, she was elected district chairwoman.

The Stanmore Road resident was a subscriber to Center Stage and enjoyed travel, listening to music and golfing.

She also liked playing with her dog, Sadie.

Ms. Dietrich liked to attend Masses at St. Jude Shrine in downtown Baltimore.

A funeral Mass was offered for Ms. Dietrich Wednesday at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Rodgers Forge.

Surviving are three sons, James "J.R." Dietrich and Robert H. Dietrich, both of Towson, and Marine Corps Lt. John H. Dietrich of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; three brothers, Henry Posko and Christopher Posko, both of Severna Park, and Michael Posko of Pasadena; a sister, Barbara Ann Beran of Pasadena; and her companion, Dr. Stephen Kinsman of Baltimore.
