Pounding out 12 hits - including four for extra bases - the C. Milton Wright softball team survived a late North Harford rally to come away with an 8-6 win in Bel Air.

The No. 2 Mustangs improved to 8-0, getting a homer, double and three RBIs from right fielder Nikki Hartner to lead the offense. Center fielder Katie Kolb also had a homer, single and two runs scored in the win.

"We knew it was going to be a fight because they're traditionally tough," C. Milton Wright coach Joe Dunch said. "We hit the ball real well and were fortunate because they hit the ball well, too."

North Harford got a two-run double from catcher Cara Testerman followed by a two-run homer from third baseman Ashley Schmidt in a four-run sixth to cut the lead to 8-6, but that's how things would stay.

The Mustangs got some fine defensive play from shortstop Brittany Paletar, who made a diving catch on a line drive to get a double play in the third and then went a long way to grab a pop-up in center field to start the seventh.
