Get ready, get set, run

The lowdown -- The sun's shining and the weather's finally warming up. It's time to dust off those running shoes. There's no more room for excuses. Support a good cause while sweating off a few calories by participating in the 2006 Victim's Fund 5k Run/Walk.

If you go -- The event takes place tomorrow at 9 a.m. The run/walk will begin at the Patterson Park Recreation Center at 2601 E. Baltimore St. To register go to or call 410-982-1137. $15 for race fees, $20 on race day. The first 500 participants will receive a free T-shirt. There will be refreshments available at the finish line.

Earth Day celebration

The lowdown -- Gather up the family for a trip downtown to celebrate Earth Day with Baltimore Department of Recreation and Parks. Participate in arts and crafts, flower planting, games and more.

If you go -- This event is free of charge and recommended for ages 5-12. It takes place at Middle Branch Park, 3301 Waterview Ave., on Saturday at 11 a.m. Call 410-396-7900 for more information.

Taste of Catonsville

The lowdown -- On Tuesday, the Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce hosts the Taste of Catonsville. The event will feature many of the area's best restaurants at the Rolling Road Golf Club, so guests can sample the town's foods. Live musical entertainment will also be provided.

If you go -- The Taste of Catonsville will take place Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Rolling Road Golf Club is at 814 Hilltop Road in Catonsville. Visit or call 410-719-9609 for further information. Registration is required. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.
