HCC to showcase entrepreneurial ideas

The Center for Entrepreneurial and Business Excellence at Howard Community College will sponsor a "Rocket Marketing" event from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 24 in the Kittleman Room of the Instructional Lab Building (ILB-100), 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia.

The event will showcase the entrepreneurial ideas and skills of Howard Community College students, who will each have five minutes to pitch their startup ideas to an audience that is to include investors, business owners, faculty and staff.

The public is invited. There will be an opportunity to tour the center's new space and meet faculty, coaches, students and business advisers.

$60,000 pledged for crisis center

Mary Ann Scully, president and chief executive officer of Howard Bank and co-chair of the Renovation and Expansion campaign for Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center, has announced that local financial institutions have pledged $60,000 to the campaign.

Citizens National Bank has pledged $20,000 and will have a group counseling and activity room named in its honor. Provident Bank has pledged $15,000 and will have a counseling room named in its honor, and Howard Bank has pledged $15,000 and will have the entrance garden named in its honor. The courtyard garden will be named in honor of Columbia Bank, which pledged $10,000.

Grassroots provides the county's only shelter for homeless people and is headquarters of the county's Mobile Crisis Team, which responds to psychiatric emergencies and family crisis.
