O'Malley center plans trip to Mass.

O'Malley Senior Center will offer a three-day trip to Massachusetts June 12-15. The trip will include three nights at the Holiday Inn Select, three breakfasts and dinners, guided tours of Boston and Salem, and a whale-watching cruise. Also included is a visit to Quincy Market and a Boston Pops concert.

The cost of the trip includes tips and taxes. Cost is $529 (double occupancy) of $669 (single). The deposit of $200 is required with the balance by June 2. A complete itinerary is available at the center, 1275 Odenton Road. 410-222-6227.

S. County center schedules trips

Trips scheduled by the South County Senior Center include:

April 26 and 27, trip to Fallingwater, Kentuck Knob, Linden Hall and Nemacolin Woodlands in Laurel Highlands. The trip includes a buffet dinner, overnight lodging and breakfast. The cost is $265 per person (double occupancy) or $325 (single).

May 9, B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, lunch at Chiapparelli's in Little Italy. The cost is $69.

May 23 and 24, trip to Philadelphia to visit Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell Center, Christ Church Cemetery and the National Constitution Center. There also will be a trip to the Italian Market and Termini Brothers Pasticceria. The cost of the trip, which includes transportation, meals, lodging, baggage and gratuities, is $280 (double occupancy) or $345 (single).

Seniors sought to teach life skills

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging is seeking "volunteer grandparents" to work with children 15 to 20 hours a week. Activities include mentoring, tutoring and giving advice on life skills, with extra attention for children in Head Start or special education and children living in shelters and family-support centers.

Other activities include reading stories, doing puzzles and helping children learn to feed themselves and set a table, as well as learn colors, numbers and the alphabet. Volunteers must be income-eligible and at least 60 years old. Benefits include a tax-free stipend, paid training, free transportation, sick leave, lunches and medical exams.
