ANNE ARUNDEL -- In his first year of participating in track, sophomore Justin Murdock of Glen Burnie has wasted little time in establishing himself as one of the best sprinters in the state.

BALTIMORE COUNTY -- After sitting out his sophomore season with a back injury, St. Paul's lacrosse midfielder Austin Boykin is making up for lost time with his intensity and all-around play in his senior year.

CARROLL -- When she's not playing lacrosse, Century's Jess Makowski is leading a project to build a drainage pond at the school that will help to keep the Chesapeake Bay clean.

HARFORD -- For North Harford's Marley Welsh, success in lacrosse is tempered by the loss of her mother to breast cancer.

HOWARD -- Long Reach senior Tiffani Long, the area's top long jumper, has committed to Maryland, where her father, Larry Long, was a standout jumper in the 1970s.
