STATS -- Thompson is in his fourth year of varsity with the Clippers. Thompson, a utility player whose duties range from playing outfield to designated hitter, has stolen seven bases and scored six times.

SIDELINES -- Thompson is president of the Jonathan Ogden service club, writes for the school newspaper and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound senior, an honor roll student, is headed for Wesley College to play football. Thompson earned the 189-pound city wrestling title with a record of 19-3. He was the football captain, the heart of the Clippers' offensive line and its inspirational leader. He had 30 tackles and four sacks as a nose tackle, as Patterson shared the city A Division crown with City and Dunbar.
