Roch around the clock

April 11, 2006|By ROCH KUBATKO

I'm cleaning out my notebook from yesterday, and there isn't much left.

I asked Kevin Millar about once again being deemed the emergency catcher after the Orioles designated Raul Chavez for assignment. Millar's total amount of experience at the position came in the instructional league in 1995 and 1996.

Not exactly the guy you want trying to throw out Johnny Damon in the ninth inning of a tie game.

It's not like there was a stampede of volunteers for the job. Millar pretty much has it all to himself.

"I offered to do it and probably nobody else has been in the instructional league to catch," he said. "That's why they call it `emergency.' If that's the situation, there will probably be a guy on the plane before the game ended."

Jumping topics, Anita Marks begins her afternoon sports talk show on ESPN Radio 1300 AM in Baltimore on May 22, filling the 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. time slot. She still needs a title for the program, and all suggestions are welcomed.

You're a creative bunch. Have at it.

But please, keep it clean so I can print your entries. I'm afraid to go first.
