G. Court Clarke, a retired sales engineer and longtime Severna Park resident, died of cancer Tuesday at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was 70.

Mr. Clarke was born in Spangler, Pa., and raised in Cowen, W.Va. He was a 1953 graduate of Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, W.Va., and earned a bachelor's degree in business from Lehigh University in 1958.

From 1958 to 1964, he was a sales engineer with Jeffrey Manufacturing in Columbus, Ohio. In 1964, he took a similar post at Cooper Power Systems, based in Cannonsburg, Pa., from which he retired in 1999.

Mr. Clarke enjoyed sailing aboard the Lady In Red, his Catalina 30 sailboat, said his wife of 47 years, the former Joan Ellen Johnson.

Mr. Clarke was a member of Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road, where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow.

Also surviving are a daughter, Carole Parker of Millersville; a sister, Gail Passant of Arlington Heights, Ill.; and three grandchildren. His son, Mark Courtland Clarke, died in 1990.
