Police assessment team invites public comment Tuesday

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. will visit the Howard County Police Department this month to examine its policies, procedures, management, operations and support services.

Members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session to be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Ellicott Room of the George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City.

The assessment team is made up of members of law enforcement agencies in other states. The team will review written materials, interview staff members and visit facilities to confirm compliance with the commission's standards.

Those who cannot attend the public information session can provide comments to the team by calling 410-313-2214 between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Comments must be limited to 10 minutes and must address the department's ability to comply with the commission's standards. A copy of the standards is available at police headquarters.
