Education board to meet Wednesday

The Carroll County Board of Education will meet at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Room 007 of the board offices, 125 N. Court St., Westminster.

The agenda will be posted on the school system's Web site at carrollk12.org.

Meetings will be broadcast live on CETV, Channel 21 on Adelphia cable TV, and repeated at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sunday and the following Thursday, and 9 a.m. Saturday.

Feedback sought on materials

The Carroll County Public School system invites the public to review instructional materials considered for adoption.

Materials will be on display through May 17 at the Resource Center, Board of Education offices, 125 N. Court St., Westminster. The Resource Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, and until 6 p.m. the second and third Wednesdays of the month.

Visitors may make comments on the materials.

The Curriculum Council will meet May 18 to approve or reject these instructional materials. Approved materials will then go to the Board of Education for final adoption.

Heritage group offers scholarships

The Carroll County Heritage Foundation will award four $1,000 Heritage of Hope scholarships to graduating seniors in Carroll County this spring.

Students who attend private schools, both in and out of the county, as well as home-schooled students, are eligible to apply.

Scholarships will be awarded to students who have shown an understanding of Carroll's heritage and demonstrated it in home, school, church and community.

A brief essay and three recommendations are required.

Applications are available at high school guidance offices and from the foundation, 553 Marshall Drive, Westminster.

Stu's Music Shop to give scholarship

Stu's Music Shop will award a music scholarship to a high school senior planning to attend college in the fall and major in music.

Applications and details can be obtained by writing a letter of inquiry to the Stewart W. Myers Memorial Scholarship Committee, c/o Stu's Music Shop Inc., 723 Baltimore Blvd., Westminster 21157. The deadline for letters is April 28.

Krebs seeking applications

Del. Susan W. Krebs is accepting applications for the annual House of Delegates Scholarship program.

To be eligible, students must be high school seniors living in Legislative District 9B. They must plan to attend a college, university or career school in Maryland during 2006-2007.

The one-year scholarships are not renewable.

Public schools adjust calendar

Carroll County Public Schools have adjusted the 2005-2006 school calendar for students, as long as no additional emergency closing days are needed.

The revisions are:

June 6: Last day for all kindergarten students.

June 7 and 8: Two-hour early dismissal for students and professional time for teachers.

Seven emergency closing days were built into the 2005-2006 calendar. One day was used Jan. 2, and another was used for inclement weather. As of March 30, five emergency days were unused.
