`Celebrate Life Reception' to honor cancer caregivers

April 09, 2006

Glenelg Country School will open its campus to Howard County cancer survivors, their families, doctors and friends from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 23 for a student-run "Celebrate Life Reception."

The event, which includes music, food, door-prizes and activities, is being planned in gratitude to the staff of Howard County General Hospital's Center for Breast Care.

The idea for the project originated through a collaboration between the school's civic leadership director, David Weeks, and Tina Beerman, a registered nurse, cancer survivor and clinical program manager at the Center for Breast Care, who became acquainted when Weeks' wife was being treated for breast cancer.

Speakers are to include Beerman and Dr. Stacey Keen, author of Defeating Breast Cancer: A Physician's Story of Healing Martial Arts and Life.
