A so-so picture: music and art

Music Review

There's a good idea somewhere inside the concept of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's Explorer Series. It just hasn't been fully mined yet.

Keyed to exhibits at the Baltimore Museum of Art, the series adds chat and visuals in an effort to provide wider context for music. The debut program in January, focusing on Picasso, featured an amateurish slide show and occasionally stuffy text by Mark Mobley. Nothing much was gained, for art or music.

BSO Performances at 8 tonight, 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, 1212 Cathedral St. Tickets: $25-$75. Call 410-783-8000 or visit baltimoresymphony.org.
