On April 2, 2006, GERARD T. BOUIE, age 34. He is survived by his father, General Bouie, SR. and six living siblings. Wake will be Saturday, April 8 at 10 A.M., funeral 11 A.M. at Vaughn C. Greene, 5151 Baltimore Nat'l Pike. April 5, 2006, PAUL J. BURNS, passed away at The Forest at Duke in Durham, N.C. Mr. Burns was born in Greenville, SC on April 16, 1919 to the late James Fleming and Pauline Brissey Burns. He graduated from Clemson College in 1940 with a B.S. degree in Textile Engineering. He served for five years as a Captain in the United States Army Infantry. In 1943, he married Margaret Lorene Bryant of Anderson, SC and they were the parents of three children, Stanley, Stephen, and Janice. He began his professional career with the Eastman Chemical Division of Eastman Kodak Company in Kingsport, TN, and was generally credited with the development of Eastman's worldwide Filter Products Business of which he was Vice-President. He retired from Eastman in 1984 as Senior Vice-President and Director of Marketing, Eastman Chemical Products, Inc. While in Kingsport he was past chairman of the Kingsport Juvenile Court Advisory Board and was deeply involved with the Upper East Tennessee Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence. Mr. Burns was president of the Kingsport Kiwanis Club, and a Sullivan County Commissioner. He was chairman of the Board of Deacons and a Bible teacher at First Baptist Church in Kingsport. In 1977, he was honored as a Distinguished Alumni of Clemson University. Mr. Burns is survived by his children, Stephen Burns and Janice Burns; daughter-in-law Christa Fuller Burns; grandchildren, Emily Haynie, Andrew Peeples, Sarah Marinacci, Bryant Burns, Anna Burns, Paul Burns, Calloway Burns, Tyler Burns, Andrew Burns; great grandson, Riley Haynie; and dear friend, Gay Atkinson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Bryant, and his eldest son, Stanley Theodore. A Celebration Service will be held at The Forest at Duke in Durham on Friday, April 7, at 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held at Bethuel Baptist Church in Greenville, SC on April 8 at 12 noon with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family has requested that gifts honoring Mr. Burns be given to the President Excellence Fund, Clemson University Foundation, P.O. Box 1889, Clemson, SC, 29633. The Burns family is under the care of Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home.
