The skinny on local clubs

April 06, 2006|By JESSICA BRANDT

Grand Central

A fixture on the local gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) nightclub scene, this surprisingly large entertainment complex has a high-tech industrial dance floor, video bar, pub and leather club serviced by six bars.

Where --1001-1003 N. Charles St.

Web site --centralstation pub.com

Call --410-752-7133

Notable --The wet underwear competition, held every Sunday after 11 p.m. on the dance floor. If that's not your style, $5 manicures and $5 martinis are offered in the pub Wednesdays after 7 p.m. Or try Tia-Oke with Tia Chambers, an eight-week, crowd-decides karaoke competition (pub side, Monday and Tuesday nights 10:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m.).

Vibe --On the dance floor, be prepared to bump and grind in a sea of fog, strobe-lights and surround sound. In the pub, billiards and beer is the name of the game.

What to wear --Your tightest designer jeans.

Crowd --Mostly GLBT, plus the occasional bachelorette and her entourage.

Music --On Wednesday and Sunday nights, see DJ Brian Mungeon. Thursdays, 69 Records' Leni K hosts VOX, an all-vocals event. Fridays are dance parties with DJ Nick Sid. Saturdays, see Elektroshock with DJs Neska, WARRING and Retrofit.
