Dogs and baseball

The lowdown -- They say dogs are a man's best friend, so here's your chance to bring your best friend to a Bowie Baysox game. The first "Bark in the Park" lets pet owners bring their dogs to a game and learn about caring for their canines at one of the veterinary tables set up throughout the concourse.

If you go -- "Bark in the Park" will take place Sunday at 1:05 p.m., when the Bowie Baysox take on the Reading Phillies. The game is at Prince George's Stadium, 4101 N.E. Crain Highway. Steeplechase races

The lowdown -- Bring a picnic and watch horses and their riders perform Saturday in the timber racing steeplechase at the Elkridge-Harford Point-to-Point Races.

If you go -- The event is Saturday at Atlanta Hall Farm, Pocock Road in Monkton. Gates open at 11 a.m., and post time for the first race is at noon. Refreshments will be available. $25 per car. For more information (including directions), visit marylandsteeplechasing.com.

Martial arts

The lowdown -- The 24th annual Maryland Open, an international martial arts tournament, is Sunday. Spectators are welcome to watch the various kung fu, tae kwon do, kenpo, jujitsu and kali labanan full-contact stick fighting competitions. Competitors will be divided by age groups.
