Student showcase

The lowdown -- Showcase Live is an annual show that features the talents of Baltimore-area college students. The participants will display their music, acting, poetry and comedy Saturday.

Boister performs

The lowdown -- With influences as wide-ranging as Thelonious Monk and Wilco, Baltimore's Boister aims to make an impression on the local music scene. The sextet plays instruments including the banjo, trombone and accordion and has recorded several original film scores. The group performs tomorrow at An die Musik.

If you go -- An die Musik, 409 N. Charles St., will host two in-store performances with Boister tomorrow at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tickets are $12 and $10 for students and seniors. For tickets or more information, call 410-385-2638.

Rap master

The lowdown -- The "original dirty rapper," Blowfly has been performing for more than 40 years, and his songs have been sampled by artists including Diddy and Ice Cube. He'll be at the Talking Head on Sunday.

Skateboard DVD

The lowdown -- Dank, a new skate video with local boarders, premieres Saturday at Charm City Skate Park. The video runs about 40 minutes and includes clips of skateboard stunts taken at the park and around the city, said producer Chad Butler. DVDs will be on sale at the screening.
