Gibson pitches in for Chesapeake-AA

In her first two appearances on the mound, freshman Lauren Gibson pitched 8 1/3 innings without allowing a run as No. 5 Chesapeake won all three games last week, including two over Anne Arundel County rivals.

Gibson struck out nine, allowed six hits and walked only three batters in a complete-game, 10-0 win over Urbana, and a 10-6 win over Old Mill, coming on in relief with the game tied at 6.

In addition to her work on the mound, Gibson batted .727 last week, going 8-for-11 with six RBIs, five runs scored, two doubles and a home run. She scored or drove in the first run in all three games, including an 11-1 upset of then-No. 6 North County.

Also a third baseman, Gibson, who carries a 3.75 grade point average, is hitting .786 with 11 RBIs for the Cougars, who were 4-0 as of Sunday. Others considered: Carly Martin, Seton Keough, softball; Rachel Sandifer, Broadneck, lacrosse; Becky Schmidt, Glenelg, softball.
