Productive work place set as topic Friday

As part of a series at Howard Community College sponsored by Howard Bank, author John Izzo will share stories and ideas about creating an engaging and productive workplace at a luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Kittleman Room of the college's Instructional Lab Building (ILB 100), 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia.

He will discuss "Awakening the Soul at Work: What Great Workplaces Teach Us and How to Become One."

Izzo, author of Awakening Corporate Soul: For Paths to Unleash the Power of People at Work, will sign books after the luncheon and will offer a workshop, "Servant Leadership: the Secrets of Great People Leaders" from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in ILB 100.

The cost for the luncheon is $35; for the luncheon and workshop, $50.

Sessions this month for job seekers

The Columbia Workforce Center, a division of Maryland's Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, and the Howard County One-Stop Employment Center will offer free workshops this month to help job seekers with their search.

A "One-Stop Orientation" will explain the services provided by the Howard County One-Stop Center from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday and again April 17 and 24.

"Navigating the Federal Job Search Process" will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

"Saving for College" is planned from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. April 13, and "Mock Interviews," with a local employer who will interview a candidate, will be conducted from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 28.

The work force center is at 7060 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia.

Jobs open house today at hospital

Howard County General Hospital invites job seekers in nursing and related health professions to attend an open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today in the hospital's main lobby.

Human resource representatives from the hospital will answer questions. Those who attend are invited to tour the hospital's unit, meet management and staff and participate in on-the-spot interviews.

Light refreshments will be served.
