STATS -- The senior left-hander threw his first no-hitter on March 24, striking out five in as many innings and walking three during an 18-0 rout of Cardinal Gibbons. In his first nine innings this season, Simmons had 10 strikeouts. A cleanup hitter who also plays left field, Simmons was hitting .500 early in the season. SIDELINES -- Simmons was 4-0 with 44 strikeouts in 44 innings as a junior. His no-hitter against Gibbons was the Greyhounds' first in 10 years. Simmons earned first-team All-Baltimore City honors as a quarterback for helping the Greyhounds to a 9-0 record, a No. 1 ranking in The Sun, a No. 12 national ranking and the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference crown.
