Anna throws curveball, rescinds divorce petition

Things are looking up for the Orioles: The team won its first game, and yesterday Anna Benson -- wife of pitcher Kris Benson -- announced she was withdrawing her petition for divorce.

Anna Benson, lovingly referred to as an "ex-stripper-turned-model" by the media, filed for divorce Friday from her husband of seven years. But through her publicist yesterday, Benson said she "expresses her love for her husband and her sincere desire to reconcile their marriage."

Her lawyer, Jeffrey B. Bogart of Atlanta, said he filed papers yesterday to dismiss the divorce petition. "They've got two small children, and Anna would like to give the children every effort to have an intact family," Bogart said.

Even so, it does not appear Anna will be a regular at Oriole Park. Her lawyer said, "Anna will reside in Atlanta during the season."

Anna Benson gained notoriety last season, when her husband was with the New York Mets. She showed up at the team Christmas party in a skimpy Santa costume and threatened to sleep with all the Mets' players if her husband ever cheated on her.

"New York's loss," Bogart said, "is your good fortune."

Kris Benson could not be reached for comment yesterday. His agent did not return a phone call.
