David Allen Roberts, 71, veteran, defense analyst

David Allen Roberts, a retired Air Force master sergeant and U.S. Defense Department analyst, died of cancer Thursday at his Severn home. He was 71.

Mr. Roberts was born in San Antonio and raised in Decatur, Ill. He served for 30 years in the Air Force and, after retiring in 1986, went to work at Fort Meade as a Defense Department analyst in 1988. He retired last year.

Mr. Roberts, who had earlier lived in Honolulu, had been a resident of Severn since 1983. In 1989, he earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

He was an avid golfer.

Services were held yesterday. Interment will be at 9 a.m. May 9 at Arlington National Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, the former Peggy Evans; a son, David E. Roberts of Spotsylvania, Va.; a daughter, Lisa S. Foster of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, Tarleton W. Roberts of Asheville, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
