Babette R. Bafford, 79, bookkeeper, watercolor painter

Babette R. Bafford, a retired bookkeeper and volunteer, died of pneumonia Thursday at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. The former Baltimore resident was 79.

She was born Babette Rohmer in Baltimore and raised on Clifton Park Terrace. A 1946 graduate of Seton High School, she was married three years later to Carlton R. Bafford.

During the 1960s and 1970s, Mrs. Bafford worked as a bookkeeper for her husband, who was a builder and developer. He died in 2003.

From 1986 until retiring in 1996, she was a bookkeeper for the Lupus Foundation.

A longtime resident of the Marylander Apartments, Mrs. Bafford was interested in Asian and African history and took courses at Towson University.

She also liked painting watercolor landscapes and traveling.

Services were yesterday.

Surviving are two sons, Barney R. Bafford of Forest Hill and William C. Bafford of Phoenix, Baltimore County; her mother, Dorothy Rohmer of Mount Washington; and four grandchildren. Another son, Louis E. Bafford, died in 1965.
