HANDBAGS AND THE CITY

612 S. Exeter St.

The Whole Foods classed-up the block. The sushi joint added a bit of culture. But until George Sakellaris moved into the much-improved neighborhood of Harbor East, there wasn't much in the way of style. Sakellaris' spare but chic new store, Handbags and the City, has changed that and then some.

With on-trend purses from the current collections of such hot names as Isabella Fiore, Badgley Mischka, BCBG Max Azria, Botkier, Carlos Falchi, Cynthia Rowley, Juicy Couture, Kooba and Michael Kors, the two-month-old boutique has brought a little bit of Saks Fifth Avenue to Exeter Street.

"I love this city. I just love the changes that are going on," says Sakellaris, 43, who lives in Guilford. "When I decided to open a store, I knew that this was the place to be."

The Inspirations page rotates among four weekly themes: fashion, gardening, home decor and body. Send suggestions to harry.merritt@baltsun.com.
