CAROL JANE HOLDEN OOSTERWYK, of Wilmington, NC, died Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center. She was born in Wilmington, NC, January 23, 1938 the daughter of the late Roderick Hannibel and Mary Jane Richardson Holden of Holden Beach. Mrs. Oosterwyk's love for people led her to give back to her community in many ways. She was the church organist at Bethany Presbyterian Church for 15 years. It was there that she met her husband of 49 years. She taught piano, was a member of the Jaycette's and PTA. Carol's mother founded Camp Pretty Pond and inspired Carol to give many years as a Girl Scout leader. Carol traveled extensively with her husband and family. Carol's love for cooking and sharing with others led to the publication of 5 cookbooks. Carol will be remembered fondly by those whose lives she touched. She is survived by her husband, Richard H. Oosterwyk, Sr., her daughters, Terre Oosterwyk-Fruh and husband Stephen of Cary, NC and Jennifer Jane Oosterwyk of Wilmington, NC, two sons, Richard H. Oosterwyk, Jr of Virginia Beach, VA and Brian R. H. Oosterwyk of Baltimore, MD. The funeral service will be at 2 P.M., Saturday, April 1, 2006 at the First Christian Church. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at Andrews Market Street Chapel and at the Church from 1 until 2 P.M. on Saturday.
