A man died yesterday afternoon at Johns Hopkins Hospital after he was shot eight times on an East Baltimore street. Police said the shooting was the result of a dispute.

Police declined to describe the dispute. The victim's name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.

The victim, a man in his 20s with no fixed address who frequented East Baltimore, was standing about 3 p.m. in the 1300 block of N. Montford Ave. near East Preston Street and talking to eight other men when an assailant approached and shot the victim several times, police said. The shooting was not random, police said.

The man was taken by ambulance to Hopkins' trauma center, where he died about 4 p.m., police said.

Metro Crime Stoppers at 410-276-8888 is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
