Centennial's Winter pulls double duty

Sports baseball

BOYS

Although he is just a sophomore, Ben Winter was among the primary catalysts for Centennial over a three-game stretch of Howard County League games, as he contributed both on the mound and at the plate.

Winters was part of a powerful attack by the hard-hitting Eagles, who routed county league rivals Mount Hebron, Wilde Lake and River Hill by a combined, 38-3, including a 12-0 shutout of Wilde Lake.

Winter, who plays outfield, went 5-for-8 at the plate. He hit two doubles, two triples, scored four runs and knocked in seven others for the Eagles.

Winter also was the winning pitcher against Mount Hebron, striking out three batters in five innings and yielding just one earned run.

Others considered: Jared Cozart, Pikesville, baseball; Matt Higgins, Franklin, boys lacrosse; Jake Quigg, Loyola, baseball.
