The National Association of Home Builders presented Frank Hertsch, president of Morris & Ritchie Associates Inc., with its Smart Growth Achievement award for contributions in land inventory and development capacity analysis.

The Alumni Society of the Pennsylvania State University College of Liberal Arts gave its Service to Society award to Towson attorney Michael C. Hodes for his volunteer activities.

AFS Equipment, a Columbia-based food service equipment distributor, merged with Taylor Equipment Distributors Inc. of Landover. The new company is Taylor AFS and has its headquarters in Landover.

New contracts

The New York Mercantile Exchange awarded a contract to Baltimore-based BITHGROUP Technologies to provide secure wireless trading capability to the commodities exchange.


John Maroon opened Maroon PR. The public relations agency will be based in Marriottsville with Aberdeen-based Ripken Baseball as its first client.

Debbie Mason has opened a Money Mailer direct-mail advertising franchise in Southwest Baltimore.

Organization news

The Baltimore Security Analysts Society elected Carol Boykin president. She is a managing director of Bolton Partners Investment Consulting Group Inc.
