BOYS INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

PERFORMER OF THE YEAR

Andrew Revelle

Atholton

An avid basketball player for years, the junior ditched the hardwood for the rubberized track and continued the run of success he had enjoyed in cross country this past fall.

Revelle, the two-time Class 2A state champion in cross country, matched that record by collecting Class 3A-2A state titles in the 800 meters (in 2 minutes, 1.22 seconds) and the 1,600 (4:26.81). The victory in the 1,600 capped a sweep of that event at the West regional (4:31.8) and Howard County (4:30.00) levels.

Revelle also scored another gold medal at the county championships when he took the 800 in 2:03.09. At the Howard County Winter Trackfest, he finished first in the mile run, completing the race in 4:38.30.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Maurice Sydnor

Atholton

The Raiders' bid for their first Howard County crown since 1997 was spoiled by Long Reach's triumph. But Atholton banded together and took aim at a re-match at the Class 3A-2A West regional championships, which the Raiders captured.

The next step was perhaps more daunting: the state title. But Atholton gained two points or more in six of 13 events to surpass Mervo and claim the school's first state crown since 1998.
