All-carroll County

March 22, 2006

Nick Hruch

Hruch, a high jumper who also competed in the long and triple jumps and participated on several relays, added the 800-meter run to his resume and found similar success.

The versatile junior captured the 800 at the Carroll County (a record time of 2 minutes, 5.6 seconds) and Monocacy Valley Athletic League Piedmont Division championships and ran the anchor leg of the 3,200-relay squad that swept titles at the county, MVAL, Class 2A-1A West regional and state levels.

Hruch won the high jump at the county (a record 6 feet, 4 inches), MVAL (6-4) and regional (6-3) meets before placing second in the event at the state championships.

The Lions have tasted success in cross country, collecting three state crowns in the fall. Getting the track and field program to reach similar heights was a developing process, but the athletes at Liberty proved to be quick students.

The team won the county title, the school's first in indoor track and field. The Lions followed that achievement with a victory at the regional championships before finishing second at the state meet.
