SAN DIEGO -- Away from the field, after perhaps the greatest upset in the storied and mysterious history of Cuban baseball, is when the stark contrast between the communist nation and the other semifinalists in the inaugural World Baseball Classic really shone through.
The Dominican Republic players, many of whom are Major League Baseball stars, filed out of their locker room and walked sullenly to the bus, some wearing sunglasses and staring straight ahead, others chatting on cell phones. Some spoke to reporters, others declined.
