Church to hold ham, chicken dinner
Wesley United Methodist Church will hold a fried chicken and baked ham supper from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the social hall at 3239 Carrollton Road, Hampstead.
The menu includes green beans, corn, applesauce, homemade coleslaw and potato salad, rolls, dessert cakes and beverages.
The cost is $10 for ages 12 and older, $5 for children 5 to 11, and free for those younger than 5. Carryout is $11. A bake table will be available.

Library schedules stamping, book talk
North Carroll branch library, 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, will offer:
"Stamping with Jan" at 7 p.m. tomorrow for adults. Participants should take a photo to make a personalized 6-inch-by-6-inch page using basic stamping and scrapbooking techniques.
"Homeschooler's Hour - Weird Science" for ages 7 to 10 at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The topic will be acid testing. Registration is required.
"Computer Basics" for adults at 2 p.m. March 27. Registration is limited to three people.
The North Carroll Book Discussion Group for ages 9 to 13 at 6:45 p.m. April 10 to discuss Window of Time by Karen Weinberg.

War memorial honors veterans
Manchester has a war memorial in front of the town office that is periodically updated with the names of residents who have served or are serving in the military.
Applications for inclusion are available from the town office, 3208 York St. Completed forms will be held until the next update. DD Form 214 or information on current active status must be included.
Residents of Manchester and its surrounding communities are eligible.

Churches aid in Katrina recovery
Three area United Methodist churches - St. John's and Shiloh of Hampstead and Mount Zion of Upperco - recently worked in Pass Christian, Miss., to help with cleanup and reconstruction after Hurricane Katrina.
The workers were hosted by First United Methodist Church of Pass Christian. Heading the team were Joe Snively of Shiloh and T.C. Priester of St. John's.
Also on the team were Brian Flower (Mount Zion); Richard Brown-Whale (pastor of Shiloh and Mount Zion), Peter Brown-Whale, Austin Lauterbach and Steve Martinson (Shiloh); "Linky" Merson, Barb Downs, Steve Martin, Amy Haines, Jack Wargo, Terry Crisler, Lou Seifert, Chris Williams and Paul DeStefano (St. John's).

High school concert to put focus on unity
South Carroll High School will hold its first Unity Day concert from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the main gym at 1300 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.
The purpose of the concert is to treat the school community to an educational and entertaining living history program and look back at the diverse cultural history of the United States.
Performers will include the Piscataway Indian Nation Singers and Dancers, Grupo Latino Continental, Sankofa Dance Theatre, Ewabo Caribbean Trio, Broesler School of Irish Dance, and Tai Yim's Chinese Lion Dance and Martial Arts.
Pieces of a giant map of the United States will be brought out in between performances to show the building of the nation through cultural history.

Kiwanis Club to hold pancake breakfast
The Kiwanis Club of Mount Airy will hold a pancake breakfast from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday in Good Shepherd Hall of Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main St.

Actors sought for `Fiddler on the Roof'
The Calvary Players from Calvary United Methodist Church and Tree of Life Theatre Troupe are teaming up to present the musical Fiddler on the Roof.
Open auditions will be held at 7 p.m. March 29 and 1 p.m. April 1 and 2 at the church, 403 S. Main St., Mount Airy.
The musical needs cast members from middle-school-aged youth to adults, plus a chorus. Volunteers to help behind the scenes also are needed.
Those auditioning should be prepared to sing a cappella or take sheet music for piano accompaniment, and do cold readings and improv activities. Monologues are recommended, but not required.
