With the arrival of Alpha Studio, Fells Point has a new boutique salon and spa.

"I didn't want to open a hairport," says owner Jill Sell. "I think of it as a studio for artists who do work on people. It's a nice, quiet place to come. No cell phones are allowed."

The Fells Point rowhouse has been turned into a clean, open space with lots of windows. At the moment Sell has a staff of three, although eventually there may be another stylist or two.

Alpha is an Aveda-concept salon. Its products are organic and botanically derived. All hair and makeup services are offered, says Sell, except nail care.

"I prefer not to use chemicals and artificial ingredients," she explains. (Aveda doesn't make nail polish.)

The salon will offer facials and waxing soon. Bridal services are available, and the staff will go on location.

Alpha Studio is open Monday through Saturday. Call for appointments.
