Man kills assailant in Cross Keys

A man who was attacked by would-be robbers at the upscale Village of Cross Keys shopping plaza in North Baltimore yesterday afternoon grabbed his own gun and shot one the assailants dead in a parking lot, city police said. Investigators believe that the man may have been on his way to a bank when he was attacked by three men who jumped out of a white car in front of a Williams-Sonoma kitchen store. pg 1b

Industrial production increases

Industrial production in the U.S. rebounded last month, led by utilities and computer makers, as a record increase in demand for power raised the risk of faster inflation. pg 14c

JetBlue flies into the red

For the first time since JetBlue Airways Corp. began flying in 2000, the airline known for its low fares and such extras as leather seats and individual TV sets lost money, $42 million in the last quarter of 2005, an amount larger than expected. pg 14c

Three-pointer knocks out Iowa

Northwestern State's Jermaine Wallace hit a three-pointer with one second left to stun third-seeded Iowa, 64-63, in a first-round game at the NCAA men's basketball tournament. pg 1c

George Mason advances, 75-65

Will Thomas of Mount St. Joseph had 18 points and 14 rebounds, leading 11th seed George Mason past Michigan State in another NCAA tournament upset. Jai Lewis (Aberdeen) added 13 points for the Patriots. pg 1c
