In a nine-count indictment, a state grand jury charged Daniel Ryan Ernst, 22, of Annapolis yesterday with negligent manslaughter, driving under the influence of alcohol and other offenses in a fatal car accident off Interstate 97 near Crownsville, according to the Anne Arundel County state's attorneys office.

The accident occurred May 13, 2005 when Ernst was exiting at General's Highway and lost control of his Honda Accord, according to Kristin Riggin, a spokeswoman for the state's attorneys office. The car left the road and hit several trees, Riggin said. The front-seat passenger, Jameson Ryan Marx, 18, died at the scene, Riggin said.

Patrick Philip Riordan, 20, who was riding in the back seat of the car, had nonlife-threatening injuries, Riggin said.
