BSO, Morlot both fill the void with fire and energy

If Baltimore Symphony Orchestra musicians are worried about their future, given the financial pressures on the institution, or disappointed by the unexpected and unfortunate absence of music director Yuri Temirkanov this month, they sure know how to disguise it onstage.

Last week's sterling collaboration with substitute conductor James Judd made that clear. So did Thursday night's concert with another sub, Ludovic Morlot, making his unscheduled BSO debut. On both occasions, the playing had not just a good deal of discipline, but a real fire.

BSO 11 a.m. today at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, 1212 Cathedral St. Tickets $20 to $48. Call 410-783-8000.
