Police identify victim in fatal cycle accident

A motorcyclist who died Sunday after a collision and falling more than 100 feet into the Potomac River in Charles County was named by authorities yesterday as Lennie King, 54, of Easton.

King was operating a 2006 Harley-Davidson north from the Virginia border on the Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge about 1:40 p.m. when he entered the southbound lanes, sideswiped a Lincoln automobile and began to fish-tail, said Cpl. Pamela Thorne, spokeswoman for the Maryland Transportation Authority Police.

Thorne said the motorcycle slid across the southbound lanes and crashed into a retaining wall, throwing King over the edge and down more than 100 feet into the river. A boater spotted King moments later, pulled him aboard and took him to shore, where he was pronounced dead.
