Cohen making bid for County Council

Joshua J. Cohen, a second-term Annapolis alderman, announced yesterday his bid to succeed fellow Democrat Barbara D. Samorajczyk on the Anne Arundel County Council.

Cohen, 32, was re-elected to his Ward 8 seat in November by a 3-to-1 margin. The state parole and probation officer said that he began considering a run for the County Council after the winter holidays.

Samorajczyk cannot seek re-election because council members are limited to two terms.

The possibility of making "a bigger impact for the city" on land use, education and transportation motivated him to seek higher office, Cohen said.

The Eastport resident said his priorities include affordable housing, making the development review process more transparent and winning approval for a storm water utility fee.
